Indian Teen Kaamya Karthikeyan Becomes Youngest Female to Conquer the Seven Summits
Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 17-year-old student from Navy Children School, Mumbai, has made history. She is now the youngest female to scale the tallest mountains on all seven continents. On December 24, Kaamya completed her Seven Summits journey by reaching the top of Mount Vinson in Antarctica. Alongside her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan, she achieved this feat at 5:20 PM Chilean Standard Time.
Her record-breaking adventure began at the age of seven when she went on her first trek in Uttarakhand. Over the years, Kaamya’s passion for mountaineering grew stronger, leading her to climb some of the world’s most challenging peaks. Her incredible journey includes summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mt. Elbrus in Europe, Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia, Mt. Aconcagua in South America, Mt. Denali in North America, and Mt. Everest in Asia. She scaled Everest at just 16 years old.
The final climb in Antarctica tested her endurance to the limit. Facing icy terrain, extreme winds, and temperatures as low as -40°C, Kaamya saw Mount Vinson as the ultimate challenge. “This climb is the perfect conclusion to a dream I’ve been chasing for years,” she said.
Her achievements have inspired many. The Indian Navy, her school, and fans across the country celebrated her success. The Navy Spokesperson called her “a history-maker,” and Navy Children School Mumbai described her feat as “a moment of immense pride.”
Kaamya has already earned numerous accolades, including the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar in 2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised her during his Mann Ki Baat address.
This Indian teen’s story of resilience and determination continues to motivate young adventurers worldwide.
