A Major Milestone for YouTube
YouTube has announced that its Music and Premium subscription services now have over 125 million subscribers worldwide, including those on trial plans. This milestone comes just a year after reaching 100 million subscribers in early 2024. The rapid growth shows how YouTube is expanding its influence in the digital content world.
Lyor Cohen Celebrates the Achievement
Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music, shared his excitement about reaching this milestone. He said, “With your support, we have hit 125 million YouTube Music and Premium subscribers, including trial users. Many doubted we could achieve this, but we made it happen.” He also highlighted YouTube’s goal of becoming the biggest revenue source for the music industry.
YouTube Introduces Premium Lite in the U.S.
To attract more users, YouTube has introduced a budget-friendly subscription option called Premium Lite in the United States. This plan costs $7.99 per month and allows users to watch most videos without ads. It covers categories like gaming, cooking, comedy, and education. However, it does not offer ad-free music videos, Shorts, or background play, which remain exclusive to the standard YouTube Premium plan.
Why Premium Lite Matters
Jack Greenberg, YouTube’s Director of Product Management, explained why they launched Premium Lite. He said, “Since launching YouTube Music and Premium, we’ve focused on giving users different ways to enjoy content. Premium Lite is another step in that direction.” This option is perfect for those who want an ad-free experience but do not need extra features like background play or offline downloads.
YouTube’s Commitment to User Experience
YouTube’s growing subscriber base and the introduction of new subscription tiers show its dedication to improving user experience. As YouTube celebrates its 20th anniversary, it continues to evolve from a simple video-sharing site into a leading digital media powerhouse. With more flexible plans and new features, YouTube is adapting to meet the changing needs of its global audience.
