Expected Start Date of Ramadan 2025

Astronomical experts predict that Ramadan 2025 will begin on Saturday, March 1, in most Islamic countries. According to the Abu Dhabi-based International Astronomical Centre, Muslims will observe the crescent moon on Friday, February 28. Based on scientific calculations, the first day of Ramadan is expected to be March 1. However, the final confirmation depends on the actual moon sighting.

Crescent Moon Visibility and Observations

Mohammad Odeh, Chairman of the International Astronomical Centre, explained that the crescent moon will be visible through telescopes in West Asia, most of Africa, and southern Europe. In the Americas, people might see the crescent with the naked eye.

Since the moon will be visible on Friday and its conjunction will occur before sunset, most Islamic nations are expected to announce the start of Ramadan on Saturday. This aligns with traditional moon sighting practices followed by many countries.

Significance of Ramadan 2025

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a sacred time for Muslims worldwide. During this holy month, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from food, drinks, and other physical needs. The month encourages self-discipline, spiritual reflection, and an increased focus on prayer and charity.

Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, making it a fundamental religious practice. The daily fast is broken with iftar, a meal that begins at sunset, and the day starts with suhoor, a pre-dawn meal. In addition to fasting, Muslims engage in extra prayers, known as Taraweeh, and recite the Quran more frequently.

Importance of Astronomical Calculations

The beginning of Ramadan is traditionally determined by the sighting of the new moon. However, modern technology allows astronomers to predict the date with great accuracy. These calculations help Muslims plan for this significant month in advance. Many Islamic scholars rely on both traditional moon sighting and astronomical data to confirm Ramadan’s start.

A Time for Spiritual Growth

Ramadan 2025 will be a time of devotion, unity, and community bonding. Muslims will focus on personal growth, seeking forgiveness, and increasing acts of kindness. Many mosques and organizations will distribute food to those in need, reinforcing the spirit of generosity.

As the expected start date approaches, communities worldwide will prepare for fasting and prayer. While astronomical predictions indicate March 1 as the beginning, the final decision will come after the official moon sighting. Muslims eagerly await this blessed month, ready to embrace its spiritual and physical challenges.
