Four Day Work Week in Dubai: A Big Change for Government Workers
Dubai has announced shorter summer hours for government employees. From July 1 to September 12, 2025, many public workers will enjoy a four day work week in Dubai. This plan aims to boost well-being and improve work-life balance.
Two Work Schedule Options
Dubai is offering two simple schedule choices:
- Option 1: Employees work 8 hours from Monday to Thursday. They get Friday off.
- Option 2: Workers do 7 hours from Monday to Thursday, and 4.5 hours on Friday.
Government offices can pick the best option for their teams. Each office decides who joins the program.
Why This Plan Matters
This isn’t the first time Dubai tried this idea. Last year, 21 government offices tested it. The results were great. Employees felt happier, worked better, and stayed healthier.
Officials said employee satisfaction reached 98%. Workers liked spending more time with family and resting. This led to better focus at work.

Part of a Bigger Goal
The four day work week in Dubai supports the UAE’s “Year of Community.” The plan puts people first. It also matches other summer safety rules, like the midday break for outdoor workers.
Also, the city is setting up 10,000 cool rest stops for delivery riders. These steps show Dubai cares about workers’ comfort in the summer heat.
What Happens Next?
Right now, the four day work week in Dubai is only for public sector employees. However, it may inspire private companies to follow. Other parts of the UAE, like Sharjah, already use shorter work weeks. These changes could lead to better jobs and happier workers across the country. For now, government employees in Dubai can enjoy more free time, better health, and greater balance—all while staying productive.
