E-commerce in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region grew by 30% in 2024. The market is now valued at $1.8 billion, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia leading the way. Kuwait also played a key role in boosting online sales.
Surge in Online Orders and Spending
Online shopping in the UAE and Saudi Arabia saw significant increases. The UAE recorded a 7% rise in online orders, while Saudi Arabia saw a 9% increase. The regional average growth rate was only 5%, making these two countries the top performers.
Shoppers are also spending more per order. In the UAE, the average order value (AOV) rose from $89 in 2023 to $102 in 2024. Saudi Arabia saw an increase from $49.6 to $52.5, showing stronger consumer confidence.
Government Support Fuels E-Commerce Expansion
The UAE’s Digital Economy Strategy and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 played a crucial role in this growth. Both initiatives promote technology-driven businesses and create a better online shopping environment. With investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure, these countries are making e-commerce more accessible and efficient.
Popular Product Categories in 2024
MENA shoppers are increasingly buying gaming products, fashion, and B2B services online. Online gaming saw the fastest growth, with a 32% increase in orders. B2B services and fashion followed closely, growing by 25% and 23%, respectively.
