Trump Team Raids U.S. Institute of Peace(USIP), Ousts Leadership

In a shocking move, Trump administration officials stormed the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) headquarters on Monday evening. Their goal was to remove its leadership and take control of the agency. This action is part of a broader effort led by Donald Trump and Elon Musk to reduce the size of the federal government by shutting down or restructuring agencies.

Trump Officials Take Over U.S. Institute of Peace(USIP)

Kenneth Jackson, the acting president of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), arrived at USIP’s headquarters to assume control. However, USIP’s then-president, George Moose, refused to allow him inside. Soon after, DOGE personnel, along with law enforcement, entered the building. They cited an executive order that eliminates certain federal advisory committees, including the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Trump’s Plan to Reshape Government Agencies

The White House had already removed 11 board members from USIP and appointed Jackson as the interim leader. The administration claims these moves are necessary to cut costs and eliminate ineffective programs. However, critics argue that this takeover undermines the agency’s mission to promote global conflict resolution.

Backlash Against Trump’s Actions

Many lawmakers and foreign policy experts are outraged. Congressman Don Beyer called this an illegal attempt to control an independent organization. USIP, founded in 1984, has played a critical role in peace efforts worldwide. Critics say that shutting down or weakening this agency could harm international diplomacy and U.S. foreign relations.

Elon Musk’s Role in Government Restructuring

As the head of DOGE, Elon Musk has been pushing to downsize the federal government. He believes many agencies are unnecessary and should be eliminated. His efforts have already led to job cuts and service reductions across different departments, including education and veterans’ affairs. Many fear that these policies will weaken essential public services.

Future of U.S. Institute of Peace(USIP) and Other Agencies

The fate of USIP remains uncertain as Trump and Musk continue restructuring the government. Supporters of the agency are fighting back, but the administration is determined to push forward. The coming months will determine whether the U.S. Institute of Peace can survive this political upheaval.
