Most Walkable City

Dubai Named the Most Walkable City in the World

Dubai just earned the title of the most walkable city in the world. The city launched an exciting new plan to make exploring on foot easier. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum revealed the Dubai Walk Master Plan. This plan will turn Dubai into a pedestrian-friendly paradise by 2040.

The Plan for a Walkable Future

The plan includes building over 6,500 kilometers of walkways, both new and improved. This will help make walking around the city much easier. In addition, the plan will create 110 pedestrian bridges and underground paths to help people cross busy streets safely. The goal is to increase walking and cycling from 13% to 25% by 2040.

Most Walkable City: Iconic Walkways and Bridges

One of the most exciting parts of the project is the “Future Loop.” This elevated walkway will be air-conditioned and will stretch for 2 kilometers, linking famous landmarks like the Museum of the Future and the Dubai World Trade Centre. The walkway will be a green space with shops and cafes, making it a pleasant place to stroll no matter the weather.

Most Walkable City: Pedestrian-Friendly Streets and Areas

The plan also includes creating more walkable areas. For example, 112 kilometers of walkways will be built along the waterfront, and 124 kilometers will go through parks and green spaces. Some areas, like Al Fahidi and Al Karama, will become car-free zones, turning them into vibrant pedestrian superblocks. Streets like Jumeirah and Baniyas will also be revamped to make them more pedestrian-friendly.

Why Dubai Is Becoming the Epicenter of Global Tourism and Business Growth

A Vision for a Healthier and Greener City

This ambitious project fits perfectly with Dubai’s larger plans for a sustainable future. The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Quality of Life Strategy 2033 both aim to improve the city’s livability. By creating a more walkable city, Dubai is setting an example for other cities around the world.

In conclusion, Dubai’s commitment to becoming the most walkable city is a bold step towards a healthier and greener future. The changes will make it easier and more enjoyable for people to walk around, creating a better environment for both residents and visitors.
