Google is upgrading its Google TV operating system with advanced Gemini AI features. At the CES technology conference, the company showcased a new update that enhances voice commands, content search, and YouTube integration. This update will make interacting with smart TVs more seamless and conversational.
With the Gemini AI upgrade, users can talk naturally to their TVs without saying “Hey Google” before every command. For example, you can search for vacation videos saved in your Google Photos by simply asking. This feature will roll out later this year for TVs from brands like Sony, Hisense, and TCL.
Google is expanding Gemini AI to third-party TVs for the first time. Previously, these features were only available on Google’s streaming devices. Now, TVs running Google TV will compete more effectively with platforms like Samsung’s Tizen, Amazon’s Fire TV, and Roku.
Another exciting feature is the “always-on” mode, which uses sensors to detect nearby users. When someone approaches, the TV can display personalized information, such as news or weather updates. TCL will introduce this feature on its TVs by late 2025, followed by Hisense in 2026.
These updates highlight Google’s focus on creating smarter, more intuitive TV experiences. By integrating Gemini AI into more devices, the company aims to make everyday tasks simpler and more engaging.
