DP World Major Expansion at Jeddah Islamic Port
DP World, in partnership with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), has launched the new South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port. This $800 million project is set to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s role as a global trade hub. The expansion more than doubles the terminal’s capacity, increasing it from 1.8 million to 4 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Over time, it will further expand to handle 5 million TEUs.
Advanced Technology for Faster Operations
The modernized terminal features cutting-edge automation and digital technology. Smart systems have reduced gate transaction times from two minutes to just 10 seconds. Additionally, IoT-powered cargo tracking and AI-based cargo tallying ensure precise record-keeping. DP World has also introduced automated and electrified yard cranes to enhance efficiency. By the end of 2025, the number of quay cranes will grow from 14 to 17, and eventually to 22.
DP World Improved Capacity for Perishable Goods
To meet the growing demand for food and pharmaceutical shipments, DP World has expanded its refrigerated container (reefer) storage. The facility can now accommodate 2,340 reefers, nearly doubling its previous capacity. A new state-of-the-art inspection facility, the largest of its kind in Saudi Arabia, will allow up to 75 reefers to be checked at once.

Sustainable and Environment-Friendly Operations
DP World is taking major steps to cut CO₂ emissions at the terminal by 50% in the next five years. The company is electrifying yard cranes and trucks, installing solar panels, and exploring floating solar platforms. Green building designs and water recycling systems will further contribute to sustainability.
Jeddah Logistics Park to Enhance Trade
Adjacent to the terminal, DP World is developing a massive 415,000-square-meter Jeddah Logistics Park. This facility will offer modern warehousing, distribution, and freight forwarding services. Integrated with the port, it will streamline cargo transfers and boost efficiency. The park is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
A Step Towards Saudi Vision 2030
This expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to strengthen trade and economic diversification. Jeddah Islamic Port is now better equipped to handle growing trade volumes, making Saudi Arabia a key player in global logistics.
