CBUAE Launches New AED 100 Banknote with Advanced Features

AED 100 banknote: Part of the Third Issuance of National Currency

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) introduced a new AED 100 banknote with innovative security features. This banknote is part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project. It reflects the UAE’s leadership vision and commitment to sustainability, reinforcing its global economic position.

AED 100 banknote: Distinctive Design and Cultural Significance

The AED 100 banknote features various shades of red, maintaining its recognizable color scheme. The front displays the Um Al Quwain National Fort, a historical and cultural monument symbolizing the nation’s rich heritage. The reverse side showcases the Port of Fujairah, a major maritime and shipping hub that boosts trade. It also highlights Etihad Rail, a project enhancing connectivity across the UAE and Gulf countries, strengthening economic and social ties.

Enhanced Security and Sustainability

The new AED100 banknote includes SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and KINEGRAM COLORS security features. These technologies enhance protection against counterfeiting, ensuring financial security. Made of polymer, the banknote lasts twice as long as paper notes, reducing environmental impact. Raised Braille symbols help visually impaired individuals recognize the denomination, promoting inclusivity.

Seamless Circulation and Banking Integration

The new AED100 banknote enters circulation alongside the existing AED 100 note today, March 24, 2025. Banks and exchange houses will update their machines to accept both old and new banknotes. The CBUAE ensures smooth integration into the financial system, improving accessibility and efficiency.

Recognition and Governor’s Statement

The CBUAE won the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the 2023 and 2025 High Security Printing EMEA conference. Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama emphasized the banknote’s role in sustainability, economic growth, and financial innovation. He stated that its design honors the UAE’s heritage while supporting future ambitions in global finance.

The release of the new AED100 banknote coincides with the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations. This special launch aligns with the UAE’s commitment to innovation, culture, and sustainability.
