CBSE’s Biannual Board Exam: UAE Principals Welcome Student-Friendly Move

In a major change to India’s education system, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will now conduct biannual board exams for Classes 10 and 12. This means students will have two chances in a year to appear for their board exams. School principals in the UAE have praised this move, calling it student-friendly and in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

What Is the New CBSE Exam Policy?

Starting from the 2024–2025 academic year, students will sit for board exams twice a year — once in November and again in March. They can appear in both or choose just one, depending on their preparation level. The final result will reflect their best score from the two attempts.

This change aims to reduce pressure and give students more flexibility. It also allows them to improve their scores without losing a whole academic year.

Why UAE Principals Support the Change

School heads in the UAE say this move will benefit students in many ways. They believe the CBSE’s biannual board exam helps reduce stress and fear of failure. Students now get a second chance without penalty. This approach is more about learning and less about marks.

Principals also feel that this will allow students to manage their time better. It encourages a deeper understanding of subjects and prevents last-minute cramming.

Aligned with the National Education Policy

This new exam format reflects the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP focuses on reducing exam stress and making learning more meaningful. It aims to shift away from rote learning and encourage critical thinking.

The biannual board exams support this vision. They offer a more flexible and student-focused system.

Better Outcomes for Students

With two chances to take the board exams, students can plan better. If they are unwell or not ready for the first exam, they can take the second one. Schools also expect better performance and fewer dropouts.

Moreover, this format gives students time to reflect, revise, and do better without pressure.

The CBSE’s biannual board exam system is a big step forward. It makes exams more flexible, reduces stress, and gives students control over their performance. UAE school leaders believe this change aligns well with the goals of the National Education Policy and will benefit thousands of students worldwide.
