Amouage has always celebrated frankincense, and with Purpose 50, they have taken the fragrance to a whole new level. Purpose Eau de Parfum introduced a complete portrayal of the frankincense tree, capturing everything from its roots to its leaves. However, after many discussions, the team, led by Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon and perfumer Quentin Bisch, felt there was more to explore. They aimed to create something richer and more grounded, which led to Purpose 50.
The Creation Process
While Purpose Eau de Parfum was pure and elegant, Purpose 50 digs deeper into the earth. Bisch wanted to add more depth, focusing on the roots of the tree, which represent the foundation of the fragrance. This gave the scent a darker, more ancient feel, as if it was deeply connected to the earth.
A special Sandalwood accord was introduced to give Purpose 50 a more meditative and grounded quality. The fragrance also includes Vanillin, adding a sweet, almost sensual note that contrasts with the woody and resinous elements.
