Sheikh Mohammed Honors Winners of Great Arab Minds Award in Dubai

On Thursday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, honored six outstanding individuals with the prestigious Great Arab Minds Award at a ceremony in Dubai’s Museum of the Future. The award, often called the ‘Arab Nobel Prize,’ recognizes Arabs who have made significant contributions to humanity. This year’s winners received Dh1 million each for their achievements in various fields.

In his speech, Sheikh Mohammed celebrated the awardees’ contributions to science, literature, medicine, economics, and the arts. He praised their pioneering efforts in shaping global knowledge and civilization. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of the Arab spirit and how future generations will continue this legacy of scientific and creative excellence.

The winners of the 2024 Great Arab Minds Award include:

  • Prof. Oussama Khatib (Engineering and Technology): A robotics expert, Khatib created the OceanOne robot for deep-sea exploration, revolutionizing the field of robotics.
  • Prof. Yasmine Belkaid (Medicine): Belkaid’s research on the immune system and microbiomes has led to advancements in immune defense and chronic disease treatments.
  • Prof. Omar Yaghi (Natural Sciences): Yaghi’s pioneering work in chemistry has led to the development of groundbreaking materials. In which in turn, address global challenges such as clean energy and water harvesting
  • Prof. Yacine Aït-Sahalia (Economics): Aït-Sahalia has made significant advancements in financial analysis, improving market risk assessments.

  • Artist Dia Al-Azzawi (Arts): Al-Azzawi has contributed to contemporary Arab art, bridging modern art with Arab culture and heritage.
