Vipers Cruise Past Gulf Giants with All-Round Performance
The Desert Vipers secured a dominant six-wicket win over the Gulf Giants in the ILT20 at the Dubai International Stadium. Sam Curran’s unbeaten 42 and Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive 40 guided the Vipers to their second consecutive victory.
Gulf Giants Struggle with the Bat
The Gulf Giants had a tough start, losing early wickets to the Vipers’ pace attack. Mohammad Amir trapped Adam Lyth LBW in the first over, and Lockie Ferguson dismissed Rehan Khan shortly after. By the end of the powerplay, the Giants were reeling at 32/3.
James Vince held the innings together, scoring an impressive 76 runs off 62 balls. However, wickets continued to fall around him. Ferguson claimed three wickets, including key dismissals of Shimron Hetmyer and Mark Adair. The Giants managed to scrape together 119/9 in 20 overs, with limited support from Aayan Afzal Khan, who added 15 runs.
Vipers Overcome Early Setback
The Vipers faced an early scare when Mark Adair removed Fakhar Zaman and Dan Lawrence in the second over. At 22/2 in the powerplay, Alex Hales and Curran steadied the innings with a crucial 49-run partnership. Hales scored 20 runs off 30 balls before Blessing Muzarabani dismissed him.
Curran stayed composed, regularly finding boundaries to keep the chase on track. When pressure mounted, Sherfane Rutherford stepped up, smashing two sixes and a four in the 18th over. Their unbeaten 55-run partnership sealed the chase in 17.4 overs.
Key Performers
For the Giants, James Vince’s lone battle stood out, but it wasn’t enough. Lockie Ferguson (3/22) and Mohammad Amir (2/23) shone with the ball for the Vipers. Curran’s all-round effort earned him the Player of the Match award.
