Microsoft Sets Windows 10 Upgrade Deadline

Microsoft has announced the final Windows 10 upgrade deadline. After October 14, 2025, the company will stop supporting Windows 10. That means no more security updates, bug fixes, or tech help. Around 400 million users still use Windows 10 today. These users now need to decide what to do next.

What Happens After the Deadline?

Your computer will still work after the deadline. However, it will be less secure. Without updates, hackers can find and use system flaws. This can lead to data theft or malware issues.

Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates (ESU) for a price. These updates will cost $30 per device for one year. But this option is mostly for businesses and schools.

Who Can Upgrade for Free?

Many users can upgrade to Windows 11 for free. Microsoft has already sent updates to many eligible devices. In some cases, your PC may even download Windows 11 on its own.

To check if your PC can upgrade, go to Settings > Update & Security. Click on Check for updates. If your PC is compatible, follow the steps to upgrade.

What If Your PC Can’t Upgrade?

Some older computers won’t run Windows 11. They may not have the right hardware. For example, missing TPM 2.0 or an unsupported CPU. In that case, you have two options:

  1. Stay on Windows 10 with paid updates.

  2. Buy a new PC that supports Windows 11.

Microsoft is also promoting new AI-powered Copilot+ PCs. These devices are fast, secure, and ready for future updates.

What You Should Do Now

Don’t wait until the last minute. The Windows 10 upgrade deadline is coming fast. Check if your device can upgrade. If not, plan ahead for what’s next.

By acting early, you can avoid problems later. Stay safe and keep your device updated.
