UAE Announces Paid Holiday for Hijri New Year

The UAE government has announced a new holiday for workers. Friday, June 27, 2025, will be a paid day off. This is to celebrate the start of the Hijri New Year 1447. This UAE Hijri New Year holiday applies to all private sector workers. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) shared the news on Monday. It follows the official list of holidays set by the UAE Cabinet.

The Hijri New Year marks the first day of Muharram. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It remembers the journey of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madinah. Many people spend this day praying or with family. It is a time to reflect, make peace, and set new goals.
