RCB Won IPL 2025 After 18-Year Wait

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their long wait. RCB won IPL 2025 after beating Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final. It was the team’s first title after 18 seasons and three past finals.

Kohli Leads From The Front

Virat Kohli, aged 36, was the star again. He scored 43 runs from 35 balls and gave RCB a solid start. Kohli has played for RCB since the first IPL in 2008. This season, he averaged over 54 and stayed in great form. He was full of emotion after the win.

“I never thought this day would come,” Kohli said with tears. “This means everything to me. I’ve given my all to RCB. To finally lift the IPL trophy feels magical.”

RCB Sets a Strong Total

RCB batted first and posted 190 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Kohli opened with England’s Phil Salt, who made 16 runs. After his wicket, others like Liam Livingstone (25) kept the momentum. Kohli was dismissed at 143-4, caught and bowled by Omarzai.
The team slowed down in the final over, as Arshdeep Singh took three wickets. Yet, RCB had enough on the board to defend.

Punjab Kings Fall Short

Punjab Kings started poorly. They lost their captain Shreyas Iyer for just one run. Soon, they were 98-4 in the 13th over. Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh tried to rebuild the innings.

But then came the turning point. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got two quick wickets, including Marcus Stoinis and Wadhera. Punjab’s hopes faded from there.

Final Over Drama

Punjab needed 29 runs in the final over from Josh Hazlewood. Shashank Singh fought till the end. He hit 22 runs from the last four balls and stayed unbeaten on 61. Still, they fell just short at 184-7.

RCB won IPL 2025 by just six runs. Celebrations broke out as soon as the last ball was bowled. Kohli couldn’t hide his joy and relief.

Kohli’s Journey Comes Full Circle

Virat Kohli started his IPL journey in 2008 with RCB. Then a 19-year-old, he scored just one run in his first game. Over the years, he became the heart of the team.

In 267 matches, he scored 8,661 runs with eight centuries. He led RCB in three losing finals before this. Now, RCB won IPL 2025 and gave him his dream moment.

“I Gave Everything to This Team” – Kohli

“This win is for the fans too,” said Kohli. “I gave my youth and prime years to this team. I always believed. Tonight, I will sleep like a baby.”

Kohli has now won the T20 World Cup in 2024, Champions Trophy in 2025, and IPL 2025 – a perfect hat-trick.

Coach Andy Flower Delivers Success

Coach Andy Flower also deserves credit. He joined RCB in 2024 and brought new energy. In 2024, RCB finished fourth. In 2025, they came second in the league, then beat Punjab twice to win the title.

This win adds to Flower’s coaching success. He has already won the Pakistan Super League and The Hundred.

England Players Shine Too

England players Salt, Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell also played key roles. Salt and Livingstone took important catches. Bethell returned home for international duty but still earned a winner’s medal.

Livingstone has now won back-to-back IPL titles, lifting the trophy in 2024 and 2025.

RCB won IPL 2025, and cricket fans witnessed history. It was a fairytale finish for Kohli and his team. After 18 years of hard work, heartbreak, and hope, RCB are champions at last.
