Etihad Rail: Transforming UAE Travel in 2026 with High-Speed Passenger Service

Etihad Rail Launches Passenger Service in 2026

The plan is to launch its passenger train service in 2026, connecting all seven emirates. Etihad Rail will span 1,200 km and efficiently link major cities and regions across the UAE. Officials have confirmed the launch year but have not announced the exact operational start date yet.

Fast, Efficient, and Connected Travel

The new trains will reach speeds of up to 200 km/h, significantly reducing travel times. The journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai will take only 57 minutes. The system will serve 36.5 million passengers annually, improving nationwide mobility. The authorities have confirmed University City in Sharjah and Sakamkam in Fujairah as stations.

Luxurious Train Experience for All Classes

Etihad Rail will offer over 400 seats divided among first, business, and economy classes. Travelers can enjoy free WiFi, infotainment systems, USB charging ports, and spacious legroom. Advanced air-conditioning and aerodynamic designs will ensure a comfortable and energy-efficient ride. TV screens will display live arrival times and train locations inside each cabin.

Scenic Routes Across the UAE

The trains will pass through cities, deserts, and mountains, providing scenic views. Passengers will see Fujairah’s rugged mountains and the Liwa Desert near Mezeiraa. The company will deploy fifteen luxury carriages to provide a premium travel experience.

Integrated Door-to-Door Connectivity

Etihad Rail will integrate the train service with public transport and ride-sharing options. Passengers can travel directly from train stations to homes, offices, or tourist spots. This design will reduce commute times and ease traffic congestion.

Smart Ticketing and Nol Card Integration

The company will implement smart ticketing systems to streamline bookings. Travelers will also use Nol cards to simplify fare payments.

Global Partnerships for Superior Service

Etihad Rail has partnered with Alstom, SNCF, and Thales Group to enhance operations. These companies will help improve passenger management, safety, and intelligent transport systems.

Economic and Environmental Impact

Experts expect the project to add Dh145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years. The network will promote sustainability by encouraging fewer car trips and lowering emissions. The project supports the country’s smart city and clean transport goals.

A New Era of UAE Transport Begins

Etihad Rail focuses on innovation, comfort, and sustainability to transform travel in the UAE. The project will establish a new standard for high-speed rail in the Gulf region.
