UAE: Possible 6-Day Holiday for Eid Al Fitr as Sharjah Announces Public Sector Break
Eid Al Fitr Holidays Announced in Sharjah
Sharjah has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holidays for government employees. The break will start from Monday, April 8, and will last until Friday, April 12, depending on the sighting of the moon. Public sector employees will return to work on Shawwal 4, which falls on Saturday, April 13, if the Islamic calendar follows the expected pattern.
Possible 6-Day Holiday for Many Residents
Since the UAE follows a Sunday-to-Thursday workweek for government offices, the announced holidays create an extended break. If the Eid holiday aligns with the expected dates, public sector employees will get a six-day break, including the weekend before Eid.
Private Sector Holiday Announcement Expected Soon
The UAE government usually announces holidays for the private sector separately. While private companies often get shorter holidays, many businesses align their schedules with public holidays. Employees in private firms can expect a similar holiday period, but confirmation will come later.

Moon Sighting Determines Exact Eid Date
Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, depends on the moon sighting. Islamic months follow the lunar calendar, so the exact holiday dates can only be confirmed when the crescent moon is sighted. If the moon is seen on April 8, Eid will be on April 9, and the break will officially begin.
Shift Workers May Have Different Schedules
While most public sector employees will enjoy the holiday, some workers may have different schedules. Employees working in hospitals, emergency services, and essential sectors may continue to work in shifts. However, they might receive alternate days off or extra compensation.
Exciting Time for Residents and Tourists
Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important festivals in the UAE, celebrated with prayers, family gatherings, and feasts. Many residents use the extended holiday to travel, visit relatives, or enjoy events in the country. Malls, restaurants, and tourist spots will have special promotions, making it a lively time for everyone.
Sharjah’s Eid Al Fitr holiday announcement brings excitement, offering many public sector employees a long break. While the private sector awaits its official holiday notice, most residents can prepare for a festive and relaxing time. Keep an eye on the moon sighting updates to confirm the final dates!
