India’s star fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, admitted that playing all their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Dubai has given them an advantage. He believes that being familiar with the pitch and weather conditions has helped the team perform consistently.

Mohammed Shami Highlights the Home-Like Advantage

After India’s semi-final win against Australia, where Mohammed Shami took three wickets, he shared his thoughts on the benefit of playing at a single venue. He said, “It definitely helps because we know the conditions and how the pitch behaves.”

India has played all their matches in Dubai, unlike other teams that traveled between Pakistan and the UAE. Their unbeaten record in the tournament proves how well they have adapted to the conditions. The final, scheduled in Dubai, will be another opportunity for India to use their experience.

Travel Challenges for Other Teams

Other teams in the tournament had to move between multiple cities, facing different pitch conditions. For example, South Africa had to travel to Dubai without playing a match and then return to Pakistan within a day. Such travel schedules make it harder for players to adjust to changing conditions.

Gambhir Disagrees with Advantage Claims

While Mohammed Shami sees an advantage in playing at one venue, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, disagrees. He stated that the team trained at a different facility, not at the match venue. He dismissed critics by calling them “perpetual cribbers” and told them to “grow up.”

Mohammed Shami Wants Saliva Ban Lifted

Apart from the venue debate, Mohammed Shami also spoke about the saliva ban in cricket. The ICC banned the use of saliva on the ball after the COVID-19 pandemic. Shami believes allowing it again would help fast bowlers generate more reverse swing.

Shami’s Commitment to Team India

Despite some fitness concerns earlier in the tournament, Mohammed Shami bowled a full 10-over spell against Australia. He remains focused on contributing to the team’s success. With the Champions Trophy final approaching, India hopes to continue their winning streak in Dubai.
